We, as an organisation also believe in a ‘root-to-fruit’ strategy that very often leads us to work directly with affected individuals whilst maintaining our communications with the relevant authorities. This simply means that we ‘identify’ root causes and provide solutions that are long-term rather than focusing on ‘fruit deletion’ which only have short term/seasonal benefits. Another unique attribute of our organisation is the ‘tailored-approach’ to all our projects. Each solution provision is contextualized by assigned mentors and as such we ‘walk through’ the process with each individual enrolled in our dynamic programs/projects to ensure that they are effectively educated, encouraged and empowered.
We simply aim to alleviate the reality of depravity in the local community of Holbeck. The environment on the streets and often times in the meeting rooms of weekly conversations with local councillors and common-interest groups necessitates the need to raise the optimism for improvement in our local community. The staggering statistics on crime, prostitution, drug addition and other unsocial behaviours are really fruits of a root problem. The depravities expressed in Statistical tables are really a picture of a lack of awareness and/or equipping for alternatives in the local community. A petty thief is unlikely to steal £10 at the risk of Jail time if he is made aware of the realities of employment and equipped with the relevant education and tools – including life skills – to pursue this reality/ideal. The same principle applies to the street prostitute who devalues him/herself for seeming benefits that pale in comparison with an educated employee with better self-valuation. Both scenarios are realities in Holbeck aimed to be resolved by our educational & WORK PROGRAMS.
